Generate the social image from the post it belongs to, at publish time, so nothing ships with the default card.
The default card is the one nobody clicks, and the manual card is the one nobody makes. Generating it at publish is the only version of this that survives a busy week.
Why this will not look generic: The card is generated from that post's own subject and your saved style, so it is about the article rather than a template with the title typed into it.
Typical run: every post from now on. Generated images come back downscaled; pull the full-resolution original from your library before uploading it to the CMS.
Point it at: One share card you are happy with, reversed to set the house style.
What comes back (representative example): A flat editorial card on a deep teal ground, with a single geometric motif occupying the right third and the left two thirds held empty. Shapes are hard-edged with no gradients, no photography and no texture anywhere. One accent in warm sand appears exactly once, at the focal point. There is no type in the generated art at all, which is deliberate: the title is composited over the empty side at render time rather than generated into the image, so it stays crisp and editable per post. The composition is asymmetric and reads at small size because almost nothing is competing in the frame.
Things you would never have thought to type:
What you change: The motif, per post. The empty side and the absent type are what make it a template rather than one card, so leave both.
